It&#8217;s a little odd for the power management daemon to be the source of a power problem!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-351 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/powerd-500x492.png\" alt=\"powerd\" width=\"500\" height=\"492\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/powerd-500x492.png 500w, http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/powerd-150x148.png 150w, http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/powerd-1024x1008.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/powerd.png 1416w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/> After poking around a little more I noticed that the activity monitor stores power consumption infomation and the light switched on in my head. A quick look at top confirmed my suspicions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-350\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/top-ocpu-500x383.png\" alt=\"top-ocpu\" width=\"500\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/top-ocpu-500x383.png 500w, http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/top-ocpu-150x115.png 150w, http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/top-ocpu-1024x784.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.sysop.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/top-ocpu.png 1144w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/>The reason powerd appears to be using a lot of CPU time is because when you have activity monitor open it&#8217;s querying it for power information.
